INDICATIONS:
Cattle, Horse & Camel
Respiratory tract & Umbilical infections caused by E. coli & Salmonella Mastitis. Metritis & systemic infections, Enteritis.
Pig, Sheep, Goat, Calf, Poultry & Dog
Respiratory & Urogenital Tract infections. Secondary bacterial infections associated with viral disease like Canine distemper, Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, Proteus infections. Post-surgical care, calf scours.
TARGET SPECIES:
Equine, Cattle, Sheep, Goat, Pig and Dog
Dosage & Administration:
Cattle, Sheep, Goat, Pig and Dog: 5-12 mg/kg of body weight IM for 3-5 days.
Horses: 4.4 – 6.6 mg/kg body weight IM or IV bid–tid, if severe infection.
For uterine infusion in mares
Amikacin Solution (Amikacin Sulfate Solution) is indicated for the treatment of uterine infections (endometritis, metritis and pyometra), caused by susceptible organisms including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas spp., and Klebsiella spp. For treatment of uterine infections 2 grams (8 ml) of Amikacin (Amikacin Sulfate Solution), mixed with 200 ml 0.9% Sodium Chloride sterile solution or distilled water infused aseptically into the uterus daily for three consecutive days, has been found to be the most efficacious.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
The aminoglycosides can also cause neuromuscular blockade, facial edema, pain/inflammation at injection site, peripheral neuropathy and hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely, GI symptoms, hematologic and hepatic effects have been reported.
